Frequently Asked Questions
1
Do I need to be an experienced writer to join?
Not at all. All of our workshops and courses welcome beginners as well as more experienced writers. You don’t need any formal training or previous experience – just an interest in writing and a willingness to give it a try.
Read our blog Join Our Community: Writing Workshops for Everyone for an overview of what to expect at one of our workshops.
2
I am nervous about sharing my writing. Do I have to read my work out?
Workshops encourage sharing in a supportive environment, but you never have to read your work out if you don’t want to. You’re always free to listen, write, and take part in the exercises without sharing your work until you feel ready. In our Writing For Wellbeing workshop there is no pressure to share personal work. Read our blog Writing For Wellbeing and Joy for more insights into writing for wellbeing.
3
Will the workshop help me get published?
Our workshops focus on the craft of writing, writing for wellbeing, and building your confidence and creativity. While they may certainly help you reframe or refocus on your work in progress, guidance or advice on the industry and publication is not part of the workshop.
4
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
No, just turn up with a notepad and pen/pencil or your preferred writing device. Mostly, our workshops are about writing for pleasure and making time for writing, so there's no prep and no homework!
If any specific preparation is needed for a particular workshop, we’ll let you know in advance in the workshop description and provide details by email.
5
Will I need to take notes?
It’s totally up to you.
At our face-to-face workshops you will receive a workbook that we use to guide us through the exercises. It contains everything covered on the workshop and QR codes with links to material discussed.
6
Is food and drink provided?
At all‑day face‑to‑face workshops only tea, coffee and biscuits are usually provided. Please bring your own lunch or snacks, or check the venue information for nearby options.
